Even though it was the middle of the night it was still warm, about 65 with a light comfortable wind. Ahead of us was a thick wall of trees and he walked me straight for it. After 10 minutes of walking through the woods I could see a little light coming from farther on. We were getting closer to the light when Zack stopped me.
"Close your eyes," he told me. I looked at him and closed my eyes, he took my shoulder and lead me toward where I had seen the clearing. A few minutes later I could feel something other than dirt under my feet and had the sudden urge to open my eyes and see what I was standing on. I held back the urge and let Zack lead me. He stopped abruptly and stood still. He let go of my arms and turned me to face away from him.
"You can open your eyes now,"Zack whispered softly into my ear. The gesture sent happy goosebumps up my arms. I opened my eyes to the slow churning of waves. We were on a beach and under my feet was sand. I took of my shoes and let my feet sink into the soft grains. I gave a happy sigh and turned to Zack. He smiled.
"This is a beach I found when I was young. I used to live on the other side. I would come out and sit on the beach at night and watch the stars. If it was nice enough I would sleep out here." I could here a longing in his voice. I sat down and pulled Zack down next to me on the sand. We both looked up at the stars. He tugged off his shoes and placed them on the sand next to him and lay on his back his arms behind his head just staring up into the night sky. I did the same laying beside him I sighed content. We just lay like that for what I imagine was three hours just laying in the sand the wind tousling my hair. Zack gave a sad sigh and sat up. He pulled me up and we pulled our shoes back on. We walked back through the woods hand-in-hand and me leaning against his shoulder. The whole ride home was in silence, neither one of us wanting to break the peaceful moment we were still enclosed in. the old truck pulled into my drive way and into an empty spot. My dad wasn't home yet so there was plenty of room. Zack took my hand and led me to the front porch.
"Did you have a good time?" Zack asked me.
"I loved it, especially the beach," I told him honestly. He smiled and I told him I had to get to bed, we had school tomorrow and I needed at least some sleep. I kissed his cheek and giggled at his surprise. I walked into the house watching Zack drive down the road and out of sight. I wandered off to bed and slept only of the night sky filled to the brim with little twinkling lights.
The week passed pretty normally. Zack and I went out two more times that week, each time going to our beach and looking at the stars for a few hours. Today was Friday. I t was very warm out and Zack asked if I wanted to go swimming at our beach after school with our lunch group which included Anna, Megan, Abby, Cortney, Jake, Will, and unfortunately Hunter. At first I had been a little mad that the others had to come along but that seemed silly now. I knew my friends would have a good time so I agreed. I had just bought a new bathing suit and couldn't wait to try it out. It was a black and white poka-dotted bikini. I decided to wear my hair down and pulled my black dress, made for the purpose of going over a bathing suit, on. I turned on my stereo and blasted the music. With no one around I could listen to music as loud as I wanted, one of a few of advantages to being home alone all the time. I cleaned up the rest of my room while I listened to way-to-loud music. I noticed, while cleaning up my desk, that there was a book open that I hadn't read for years on top of a stack of mismatched papers. I was usually very organized and was confused why the papers were where they were. I cleaned it all up not really trying to figure it out. I really didn't care. As I sang along with the music I heard a faint knocking at the front door, I stood up and turned the radio off. I set down the papers on the cherry wood desk. I turned off all the lights on my way to the front door. The door swung open a moment before I grabbed the handle. Standing there a huge grin on his face was, Zack. Seeing him smile I couldn't help it, I had to smile too. Suddenly he wrapped me up in a tight hug. It took me a second to remember to breath when I did I wrapped my arms around him. He was warm like standing next to a fire and I didn't want to let go. I heard someone in the background, most likely Hunter, cough dramatically. Zack chuckled in my ear and then pulled away, he kept my hand intertwining our fingers. We walked together to his truck. We started driving north up to the secret beach. When we were close to the woods Zack took a different rout than normal. I looked at him quizzically, he just winked. We kept driving for about 45 minutes more. Then I figured out why we had turned a different direction. Zack mist have felt the same why I did and so he took us to a beach close to the other one, but that meant that our beach was still a secret. I felt a warmth crawling up my body and realized it made me extremely happy to share a secret with Zack that no one else knew. Before I had realized that he had gotten out of the car Zack was opening my door and helping me out, not that I needed the help, but I enjoyed it. As we were walking to the shore I noticed a large hill on the edge of the water almost like a diving board but a bit higher, then I saw the tire swing tied to a tree at the top of the hill.
"I get to go first," I yelled as I ran to the swing taking of my cover-up as I went. When I got there Zack was right behind me. Wow he's fast.
"push me," I asked Zack, he laughed at my puppy dog face but did as he was told. When the swing was as far out as it could go everyone yelled jump and I jumped off, screaming the whole way down. When I came up for air Zack looked a little edgy but everyone else was laughing and pushing to go next. I swam back to shore and sneak up behind Zack. Well sneak really isn't the word, since I was wet you could hear me coming, but Zack did a good impression of pretending not to hear me. When I was right behind him I pushed on his back as hard as I could trying to push him into the water. It was a lot eaiser than I imagined (he was probably playing along) and I lost my balance before he fell. It was most likely the most comical thing any of my friends have ever seen. Zack quickly regained his balance and tried to catch me so I wouldn't fall into the water wrong and hit my head, but as he was trying to that he then lost his balance and came crashing after me. He caught me before we hit the water and he wrapped me in a bear hug (probably trying to protect me again, goodness when was he ever going to realize that I'm just naturally clumsy?). We hit the water with a huge splash. For one terrifying second I though I was going to drown because Zack's bear hug was making it pretty hard to hold my breath. Luckily we broke the surface just in time. As I started gasping for air like there was no tomorrow, my friends just stood there and laughed their unappreciative heads off. Meanwhile Zack is trying to figure out if i'm going to make it. After the hilarious scene the rest of the time we just swan around for hours and told lame jokes you know the things you do with your friend. It was starting to get dark so we got out and dried off. Hunter said he wanted to lead the rest back home and we were all to tired to argue. We all go into our cars and headed of, I was tired and the sound of Zack's of tune humming was so soothing. I quickly drifted off to sleep, I was woken by a huge crash and the sound of breaking glass, then the horrific screech of tires and our car jolted to a sudden stop. Zack shouted and my head flung forward into the dashboard, then everything went black.
